Greeting passersby and customers at Pengkalan Gadong, Brunei are a set of standees that combine traditional Chinese calendars and a burning passion for all things Porsche at Poursha Coffee.

Inspired by the love for iconic German sports car brand from name to the opening hours from 9am-11pm, Poursha Coffee needed a set of standees that not only served as a homage to the car brand but also evoke a strong sense of nostalgia and visually connect with the local community.

Prompted by one of the cafe’s defining features, the multiple Chinese calendars hung up in the interior, it made perfect sense to utilise the format to create the standees that feature plenty of design elements found in both legacy and modern-day Porsches.

To celebrate Baiduri Bank’s official opening of their very first ATM in the Temburong District of Brunei as well as the Baiduri Lokal Market held in Pekan Bangar, was the creation of a unique, commemorative art piece and visual identity for the campaign in the form of a backdrop set throughout the event.

The visual direction was inspired by the nostalgia of early video game titles and pixel art, namely the MOTHER series and other JRPGs of the era. Bold and bright colours were chosen to reflect Bangar’s newly facelifted buildings.

The entire piece is surrounded by a collection of cultural patterns found throughout Bangar all the way from its sidewalk tiles to inscriptions and carvings on the town’s older buildings, finished in the brand’s corporate colours. The patterns would then be adapted to form the backdrop of the event.

Biro XT (Bureau in Malay), is a bespoke 1-of-1 CNC machined custom keyboard case, the first of its kind in Brunei Darussalam.

It is a 65XT layout keyboard designed to fit Wilba.Tech’s WT65-XT PCB. The overall design was inspired by the IBM F77 Model-F as well as the first Sony PlayStation.

The 4-piece design consists of a two-tone, black anodised and grey hammertone powder-coated top + bottom case machined out of 6063 Aluminium, 2 polished stainless steel external weights and 2 walnut accent pieces situated by the arrow keys and side F-row cluster.

Prototyping was done via 3D printing before the final CAD files were sent for machining.

National Theatre Festival Brunei is Brunei’s first theatre festival hosted in Jerudong International School’s Art Centre dedicated to showcasing all things theatre over the course of 3 days, featuring interactive workshops to plays.

The branding for this project was a joint effort between myself, Liyana Hanif of JustBruneians and Jo On of Playquarters with the goal of creating dynamic visuals and animations to match the wide range of emotions and gestures associated with theatre.

In conjunction with Brunei’s 15th National Youth Day in 2020, Young Professionals Network, Creative Core Brunei and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports hosted Youth Townhall, a physical + digital 2 day event where potential youth leaders can discuss about national development.

The commissioned set of posters were created to reflect the dynamic, diverse and youthful nature of future leaders through bold illustrations and the national colours, Red, White, Black and Yellow. The characters placed in windows shaped like that of a computer’s conveyed the physical-digital nature of the event.

Attorney General’s Chambers, Prime Minister’s Office, Brunei Darussalam (2019)

This rebranding project was commissioned by the Attorney General’s Chambers for their 60th Anniversary, which was unfortunately cut short and ultimately not adopted due to a shift in priorities by the Government of Brunei due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The brief was a new, modern logo that stayed true to its Bruneian roots and 5 core values: its greatness, trustworthiness, innovation, to fairness and commitment to what is right. The project consisted of a brand new logo, branding guidelines, print collaterals and stationery, online presence materials and souvenirs/gifts.

The logo’s values represents the Malay acronym “Laila”, the name of a local rice grain which becomes a recurring theme in the logo’s design.

Assisted animator Radical Nebula in creating several animated scenes under strategic communications agency Distilleri Singapore for Maison De L’asie, a Singapore-based luxury perfumery.

The brief required a 1-minute promotional video primarily featuring line-art animation that showcased their Mother X Love Perfume.

1MORE Pizza is a home pizza maker based in Kuala Belait that serves fresh, neapolitan-styled pizza inspired by music and film.

The commissioned posters take heavy inspiration from 80s-90s poster and print material for movies, music and everyday things such as coupons and old magazines. The result is a set of 3 posters that are fresh in the Bruneian F&B market yet nostalgic at the same time.

Designed and produced under Moosethetics Co, Politeknik Brunei required high quality pins that were eye-catching, modern and desirable by its students and staff with accompanying product photography.

IDEMIA (2020-2021)

A set of 4 corporate holiday greeting cards for use on LinkedIn and distribution via E-Mail were created for IDEMIA in the Asia Pacific region, two of which for Eid and Ramadhan were animated as GIFs and MP4s.

A collaboration with ChaTraMue Brunei for their 2nd Anniversary in Brunei and ChaTraMue Thailand’s first global brick and mortar outlet.

The project was a set of 3 specially designed, limited-run enamel pins on specially printed backer cards. This also included a set of 3 illustrated posters celebrating the anniversary as well as product photography.

The NUS Faculty of Engineering required a modern, sleek backdrop that incorporated the school’s corporate colours as well as engineering elements for its Student’s Townhall Meeting, hosted in part by the school’s ENGIN club.

The result was a backdrop that was both printed out and digitised on two accompanying projectors.

Client - Maktab Duli PMAMB (2017)

During my year as a prefect, I’ve helped design a handful of the college’s merchandise and sportswear for my batch year.

Client - St. Andrew’s School (2017)

The theme of the night was based on a play by William Shakespeare, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, with the ticket featuring references to the play’s characters and notable items on the backside.

The tickets were to be printed on uncoated 400gsm card paper and printed with light gold ink.

Client - Maktab Duli PMAMB (2018)

During service as a college prefect, I volunteered to create the first student-designed yearbook cover for the public relations office which had always been done by teachers. I intended to break the norm by going for a minimalist look for the cover.

The cover features a simplified 3D render of the college grounds on both sides finished in a dreamy, Sepia tone to convey the same feeling as a vintage, old photograph to accompany the name of the book, “Memori MD", which has been the official name of all of Maktab Duli’s yearbooks.

Client - Competition Commission Brunei Darussalam, Ministry of Finance (2019)

The commission seeks to promote healthy and fair competition amongst local businesses. The logo represents the national flower of Brunei, ‘Bunga Simpur’ illustrated to resemble a Venn diagram.

The 5 outer rings represent businesses, sharing commonalities but being inherently different in accordance to the anti-merger and anti-competitive laws. The inner, incomplete ring also represents the lack of a monopolised, “ideal” business, representing the law against abuse of dominant position.
